Plot
Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) is at the height of his power as Godfather of his flourishing family, which includes an extended and influential mafia. His eldest son Sonny (James Caan) is in training to take his father's place someday. When Sonny is assassinated by an ambush from a rival mafia, Don Vito is crushed. After a botched assassination attempt on Don Vito, his youngest son, Michael (Al Pacino) rises to the challenge, as the unexpected and yet the only possible candidate to take the leadership as the head of the family. Along the way, Michael must make many sacrifices, in his personal love life as well as his personal moral values, for the good of the family and juggling the reality of his involvement as the head of a mafia.
